Asian Games 2010 torch passed around the country

The relay of the Asia Games 2010 torch began its cycle on October 12. The picture of today’s Southern Metropolis Daily shows a Dongguan “Horse King” with the torch - the Director of the Dongguan Municipal Committee Liu Zhigeng (刘志庚) - who is handing the torch to basketball player Du Feng (杜锋).

Film Copyright Association to collect fees from internet cafés, long distance buses

Dongguan Times reports on a new charge for internet cafés and long distance buses commencing on January 1, 2011. Although it was reported in May that long distance buses and internet cafés might be charged for showing films through a newly developed digital distribution platform, media is now reporting that locally acquired “people with connections” will be given the duty of collecting fees.

Suggestions for education reform in Beijing

The main headline says that Migrant workers’ children can go to school in Beijing. Yesterday the Medium and Long-term National Educational Reform and Development Plan (2010-2020) was published, however this is the “trial edition” (征求意见稿). One of the issues discussed in the Plan is to “solve high school education for the offspring of migrant workers who are qualified.”
