Man responsible for four murders, including two policemen, arrested
Hu Yihua (胡益华), a native of Zhejiang, shot down two policemen in Guangdong and a couple in Zhejiang. His arrest in Xiamen yesterday has been covered in papers today. Newspaper gave him the title ‘sole bandit’ (Southern Metropolis Daily) and ‘ evil demon’ (Dongguan Times.

Many wish good luck to Hu Shuli’s new magazine Century Weekly
Reactions to the change of editorship came in the form of newspaper columns as well as blog posts. Ten Years of Chopping Timber (十年砍柴) is a reporter at Legal Daily. He commented on the move in Southern Metropolis Daily and gave the conclusion that no-one should blame Hu Shuli. An ex-deputy editor of New Century Weekly, Wen Zhang (文章) also blogged about his reaction to the takeover: it satisfied him, he wrote; both posts are translated below.

Chang Ping on how “Internet addiction disorder” is a joke
On July 16 Chang Ping (also known as Zhang Ping), who used to be the deputy editor of the Southern Metropolis Weekly wrote an opinion piece in Southern Metropolis Daily questioning whether “internet addiction” could even be seen as an illness. Furthermore, he expresses the idea that some organizations have taken Ivan Goldberg’s original joke too far.

The botany professor who wants to give Deng Yujiao a degree
In yesterday’s Southern Metropolis Daily, blogger Xifeng wrote in to respond to the news that Fu Dezhi (傅德志) professor at the Chinese Academy of Science, and famous for championing that the “South China tiger” was fake, has declared that: “I am definitely taking in this [Deng Yujiao] graduate student!”
