Jinan Times, May 19, 2010
Huang Guangyu, who founded the appliance retailer Gome and became China’s richest man before becoming involved in an insider trading scandal, was given fourteen years in prison in a closed sentencing yesterday.
Huang’s wife, Du Juan, received a sentence of three and a half years.
Chinese media seemed eager to see the couple locked up. Many of today’s papers, including the Southern Metropolis Daily, superimposed bars over Huang’s photo, but the Jinan Times tops them all with rusty iron work and badly-Photoshopped handcuffs added to a darkened photo of Huang and Du.
