Yesterday Guangzhou announced the opening of 2,372 kilometers of “green routes” as part of its attempt to promote “green and low-carban tourism”.
The green routes, which link big cities in Zhujiang Delta to scenic suburban countryside, are intended to provide urban residents with convenient outing choices during weekends and holidays. To ensure safety, such routes are only accessible to pedestrians and pedalists.
The big image on the front page shows Wang Yang, the secretary of the Guangdong Committee of the Communist Party of China, biking on one of the green routes with an entourage of government officials.
