Three policemen die in shootout and car chase in Tai’an

On January 4th, during an investigation into a recent murder case, a team of police officers were caught by surprise by two gun-toting murder suspects at their hiding place in Tai’an, Shandong Province. Four officers were shot on the spot and the gunmen forced their way out of the apartment.

A high-speed chase ensued with the gunmen consecutively hijacking vehicles and shooting at the pursuing police, causing three deaths on the police’s side. Eventually, the fourth vehicle that they hijacked, a SUV was hit by a pursuing police vehicle and lost power. One suspect committed suicide and the other was arrested.

The top headline of the newspaper announces that in Jiangsu Province, minimum wage has been raised from 960 yuan per month to 1140 yuan per month in the province’s “category one regions”, namely the most affluent areas of the province.
