While Western news sources are still reporting a death toll of around 10,000 in the cyclone that hit Myanmar yesterday, Xinhua says the number is 15,000.
Meantime, Reuters reports from Washington DC:
Making an unusual foray into foreign policy, [American first lady] Mrs. Bush, an outspoken critic of Myanmar’s generals, also accused the junta of failing to warn its citizens in time about the approaching cyclone that has been blamed for at least 10,000 deaths.
Isn’t it a teensy bit rich for Mrs Bush to lecture another country’s leaders on their negligence in the face of a tropical storm?
