On December 10 2004, three criminals who kidnapped and sold children were executed by gunshot. It was the first time that child-traffickerswere sentenced to death in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, where the crime is common. From July 20 2004, the Public Security Bureau of Kunming city spent 1 million yuan and used 100 police officers to rescue 100 children in the control of traffickers.
But there is no effective way to solve this difficulty yet, and Yunnan is still facing challenges: children are sold like cabbages in some areas. These children sometimes die during transportation or face extreme hardships working as beggars under the control of traffickers.
