The commemoration of the Nanjing massacre is the theme for the front pages of most newspapers in Beijing today.
Residents of Nanjing, capital city of East China’s Jiangsu province, held activities over the weekend to commemorate the massacre committed by Japanese invaders 67 years ago. On December 13, 1937, invading Japanese troops started a rampage in Nanjing, killing more than 300,000 Chinese.
On Sunday, the eve of the 67th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre, 179 survivors received certificates at a ceremony held by the Association for the Aid of Survivors of the massacre in Nanjing. At 10am this morning, alarms started to ring in the city to commemorate the tragedy.
The pictured front page is from the Beijing Morning Post. The biggest photo on it shows Nanjing citizens lighting incense near a mass grave where Japanese soldiers buried Chinese people alive during the Nanjing massacre.
