Supreme People’s Court issues rules restricting media access

Xinhua had a report yesterday on the Supreme People’s Court’s new regulation on contacts media reports.

A ‘spokesman system’ has been established in all Chinese higher courts and the Supreme People’s Court, ostensibly to enhance the transparency of judicial work. But part of the system is a rule that forbids judges from accepting media interviews without agreement from their superiors during the time that the spokesman system is being established.

The regulations are being touted as a means of “ensuring the public’s right to know”.
