The top headline in today’s Southern Metropolis Daily announces the amount of water that Dongjiang River supplies to Guangzhou, Shengzhen, Dongguan, and Hong Kong, will be rationed to 10.664 billion cubic meters annually. The combination of a rapidly-rising population and serious environmental issues has contributed to problems along the river. The plan, introduced by the Water Resources Bureau of Guangdong Province, will be put into effect at a date yet to be determined.
