Spring Festival travel fever begins; Ministry of Transport responds to “toll-fee incident”

Toll judges fired and suspended
Shi Jianfeng was sentenced to life in prison for evading toll charges 2,361 times when he drove on the Zhengzhou-Yaoshan highway. After internet uproar and a claim by his brother that it was actually him, the Pingdingshan Intermediate People’s Court issued a retrial. Today, media such as the Southern Metropolis Daily, points to Lou Yanwei, and Hou Xiaokong, both dismissed from their posts, and vice president of the court Ren Jianjun was suspended.

Zhang Neixian’s 100% Strawberry
f 100% Strawberry is just a simple porn movie, then there’s no point for me to stay in this field. I don’t need to worry about censorship, because there is nothing extreme in the film. Also don’t tell me that I am poisoning youth, kids nowadays mature very early, look what they are showing on TV these days? They don’t need me as a channel to be poisoned.

One-legged villagers on the Sino-Vietnamese border
Journalist Yang Fu (杨赋) writes about the old rural folk who fought on the China-Vietnam border. The old soldiers live at Yunnan province’s Wenshan, Funing county, Tianpeng town, Sharenzhai village. Because they stepped on a landmine on the border with Vietnam they because famous as the “87 villagers who were left with 78 legs because of a land mine.”

Pallavi Aiyar’s Chinese Whiskers

Prices for food and petrol neck-to-neck in Boston and Hangzhou
On microblog and news portals an interesting comparison is being drawn: Prices in Boston and China. A netizen Wang Pei (王佩) conducted a test of prices for different produce in China with its counterpart in Boston and found results to be alarming. Apart from vegetables, meats all cost more in China. Mentally disabled sent to work in Xinjiang causes uproar
A series of disturbing photographs have been passing around the internet: mentally disabled men from Sichuan are being sent to Xinjiang to do manual labor. The Chongqing Business News reports this today, as well as the Tibet Business Daily.

Xiangfan city changes its name to Xiangyang
The city of Xiangfan (襄樊) in Hubei province has been renamed Xiangyang (襄阳) - the change is official in today’s Xiangyang Daily rather than yesterday Xiangfan Daily. The paper reports yesterday’s events, which include the taking down of the old Xiangfan People’s Government sign and adding the new Xiangyang sign (main picture). They received approval for the change on December 2.
