Lecture: Mongol, Ming, Mao and Money

An Illustrated Talk by Ed Lanfranco

Venue: The Bookworm, Beijing

Date: Tuesday January 18th, 7:30pm

This is from the Bookworm’s publicity email:

Long term Beijing resident Ed Lanfranco hates the term Zhongguotong, believing “China Expert” is an oxymoron and that no such polymath beast exists in the bevy of big noses capering around the capital. Through the magic of book and map osmosis (plus 13 of the last 16 years living here with hutong history as his hobby), Lanfranco has mutated into a Beijingtong. On January 18 Ed will do a presentation at the Bookworm entitled, “Mongol, Ming, Mao, and Money” which examines eight centuries of Beijing’s evolution with special attention paid to pieces of Peking’s past that still survive. Everyone visits the Forbidden City; Lanfranco loves filling in lacunae of the Forgotten City.
