‘Friends’ is not banned, pay TV is not a flop

Contrary to previous reports on Danwei and elsewhere, CCTV is not going to postpone the launch of its pay TV service, nor has ‘Friends’ been bannned from the service, according to a CCTV insider interviewed by Interfax New Agency.

Yang Jihong, Art Director with China Digital TV Production, which produces content for CCTV’s pay services told Interfax:

“We have contacted the reporter who wrote the story and he was unable to offer a solid source of the figures he used in the article,” Yang added. “The reporter has never interviewed me. He has misrepresented information about CCTV’s pay TV operation.”

The Interfax story is here.
