First peasant workers’ train takes off
Most of today’s newspapers’ front pages feature a photo about the first “peasant workers’ train” which departed Beijing West Railway Station at 0:10 this morning, carrying about 2,000 peasant workers to Chengdu, capital of Southwestern China Sichuan province. Their tickets only cost 113 Yuan, half the price of normal express train tickets. The “peasant workers’ trains” have been organized to help workers get home for Spring Festival.

Beijing will develop 7 expressways
Minister of Communications Zhang Chunxian revealed on Thursday that from now to 2030 China will complete 85,000 kilometers of expressways at an estimated cost of 2 trillion yuan (242.1 billion US dollars).
A key feature of this expressway network is the seven expressways from Beijing to seven cities in south and west of China, including a planned link directly to Taipei via an undersea tunnel.
“The significance of the expressway to Taipei lies in logistics”, Zhang said.
