Holding an economical Olympic Games is our consistent principle“, said Liu Qi, the secretary of Beijing’s municipal Party Committee. This statement was the lead headlines of most of today’s Beijing newspapers.

So, does this mean they are going to avoid waste and corruption, or that they are just going to do it on the cheap?

Aside from the Olympics and the demonstrations in New York, (called “anti-war” parades by the Chinese press), the following stories are in the news:

– Beijing will set up 4 dog markets (for pets, not kitchen use)

– Murderer who killed pregnant woman repents in court

– New hygiene criteria for dining rooms in universities
