China strongly opposes US-Japan statement on Taiwan

The above title is the most popular leading headlines for today’s newspapers. According to Xinhua report:

China expressed “grave concern” over a joint statement of the United States and Japan listing Taiwan as one of their “common strategic objectives” in the Asia-Pacific region, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said here Sunday, saying that any “irresponsible remarks” on China’s national defense is “untenable.”

There is more on this in English here.

Another popular photo for most front pages marked the end of another hot topic this year: direct charter flights between Taiwan and the Mainland. More than 10,000 Taiwan businesspeople and their families in the mainland took the special charter flights to return home for the Chinese New Year, flying directly across the Taiwan Straits for the first time in 56 years. Last night, the HU7952 flight of the Mainland-based Hainan Airlines landed at the Capital International Airport, ending the non-stop charter flight service across the Taiwan Straits for this year’s Chinese New Year holidays.
