China Daily editorial: US Election could mark better ties

The China Daily, the newspaper that always maintains plausible deniability about the content of its editorial pages, has this to say about Bush’s second term:

After a long and bitter race to the White House, the American people have chosen to elect US President George W. Bush for a second term.

Bush declared victory against Democrat Senator John Kerry on Wednesday, sketching out a second four-year term agenda.

The worldwide attention the event attracted shows that whoever the Americans chose was going to be significant not only to the country itself but to the world at large.

And we in China appreciate the Bush administration’s determination, in its first term, to build a constructive and mutually-trusting relationship with us.
