It seems that China’s gay magazines are not exempt from the attention of the Nanny state. After last month’s hot gay action in the media (see this Danwei post), the new issue of Danwei’s favorite gay mag is rather tame.
For the first time since it started publishing, the March issue of Menbox did not include the ‘male body art supplement’. Nor was there was any sign of Menbox competitor Men’s Style on Beijing’s newsstands.
The Menbox website leaves no doubt that the magazine is not changing its target readership. There is however a notice on the site saying that Beijing readers might not be able to find the magazine on newstands because of a “special situation” connected with distribution.
