16 million signatures in a week and counting

A worldwide Chinese petition against Japan getting a seat on the UN Security Council has collected 16 million names in its first week. The original aim was 20 million by August. Names are collected via SMS and on the China918 website.

UPDATE: In an unrelated development, Xinhua has just reported that the Japanese government has agreed to giving China an 85.8 billion yen (USD 800 million) loan to China, primarily for use in developing the northwest provinces. The Xinhua report is here (in Chinese).
