Many of China’s newspapers today prominently reported on the launch of a rocket or satellite by North Korea, or as they prefer to be know, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The Xinhua affiliate newspaper Yangtse Evening Post featured the headline ‘DPRK announces satellite in orbit’ together with a large annotated graphic that points out where the first two stages of the booster rocket fell.

The annotations also point out that while the DPRK says their satellite has entered an orbit around the earth, U.S. and South Korean military sources say the rocket fell into the Pacific Ocean without sending any payload into orbit.

The other large headline on the Yangtse Evening Post front page is ‘Four Chinese women amongst victims of New York shooting’.

Authorities have identified the shooter as a naturalized American citizen originally from Vietnam.
