The First leads with the story the sinkhole that opened up under West Dawang Road last Thursday week (see report). After three days and four nights of repairs, the main lane of West Dawang Road reopened to traffic this morning. The collapse of the roadway broke a water main, cutting off water to many of the surrounding buildings. Water was restored over the weekend.
The front page photo is of Beijing’s Olympic cheerleading squad during a rehearsal. All team members are amateur volunteers.

- Beijing police arrested nine scam artists yesterday. The fraudsters, known as the “Guess who I am” gang, operated by calling victims, asking “Who am I?” and masquerading as whoever the victim guessed;
- Wang Baoqiang, who plays Xu Sanduo in the popular TV show “Soldiers Sortie” (士兵突击), is appearing in a military recruitment film currently being broadcast on CCTV-7. The spot uses clips from the show and asks, “Do you want to be a soldier like Xu Sanduo?” It can be viewed here.
