Hong Kong Commercial Daily

The Hong Kong Commercial Daily (HKCD) is a business-oriented newspaper published in both Hong Kong and mainland China. The nameplate notes that it has special permission from the Chinese government to circulate on the mainland, and according to the About page on the paper’s website, it is the only Hong Kong newspaper granted such freedom.

The top headline of today’s HKCD reads: “The motherland will always be the strong support behind Hong Kong and Macau; President Hu says no to any external interference!” For a second day, all newspapers across the country have nothing but photos of the Great Hall of People and President Hu on the front page. This is one of the only papers with a distinctive layout and unique articles rather than cookie-cutter photos and Xinhua wire reports.

Other headlines:

  • Li Rongrong, Party Congress delegate and director of the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, said in a speech yesterday that the government will continue to support the listing of state-owned enterprises on the Hong Kong securities market;
  • The personnel change among top mainland leaders won’t affect Hong Kong, says Qiao Xiaoyang, the Deputy Secretary General of the National People’s Congress.

At the bottom of the front page, there is an opinion piece about how bright the future of Hong Kong is with the support of mainland China.
