The top headline of today’s Chutian Metropolis Daily is a quote from State Councilor Chen Zhili. During her inspection tour of Hubei province, Chen said “tuition and fees for urban compulsory education will be waived by the government starting next year.”

The front page picture shows the Hubei Daily Newspaper Group’s new 25-floor office, the Chutian Media Plaza, which celebrated its completion with a big ceremony on Journalists’ Day, November 8.

Other headlines:

• “Returning to mother’s home,” a paper-cut by President Hu Jintao, was shown at a handicraft exhibition in Wuhan. The piece attracted roughly 8,000 citizens. “What meticulous work by General Secretary Hu!” said one visitor. If you haven’t seen it yet, witness the magnificence;

• Today is the first day to apply online for the civil service exam. The online sign-ups will continue through November 16;

• “What do you want the government to do next year?” In cooperation with the Wuhan city government, Chutian Metropolis Daily will begin gathering citizens’ opinions through a telephone hotline, email, and the post.
