On August 8, one year before the Beijing Olympics, a cartoon series starring the five mascots — the Fuwas — of the 29th Olympic Games will be broadcast on Beijing TV.
The front page picture of the revamped Beijing Daily Messenger shows the five voice-over artists selected to dub the Fuwas: actresses Tao Hong (sweet Beibei) and Mei Ting (simple Jingjing), singers Jin Haixin (take-charge Huanhuan) and Zhang Liangying (impatient Yingying), and TV host Cao Ying (straightforward Nini). This series will air in 100 eleven-minute episodes. In October, a second Fuwa cartoon series produced out of Shenzhen will feature the voice talents of Vicki Zhao and Jiang Wenli.
A second headline announces that FC Barcelona, has come to Beijing for three days on a controversial world tour. The world-famous football team will face Beijing Guoan in an exhibition match on the 5th, but the BDM is more concerned with the team’s living arrangements, menu, and security.
