Like all papers nationwide, Southern Metropolis Daily features the coming 17th CPC National Congress (十七大) as its top headline.

At a meeting yesterday, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided to submit a proposal to the 7th Plenum of the 16th CPC Central Committee recommending that the Party Congress be held on October 15. It also decided to hold the 7th Plenum in Beijing on October 9.

The front page photo shows a total lunar eclipse that was visible in most parts of China (at least, those areas where skies were clear). Beginning at 16:51 Beijing time, the eclipse completely obscured the moon one hour later and lasted a total of about 3.5 hours.

Headlines on the left side mention that nearly half of school uniforms in Guangdong Province are substandard, the Taliban has agreed to release all Korean hostages, and poor college students in Guangdong will benefit from a new loan scheme this semester that will assist all of those in need.
