The large headline of today’s Southern Metropolis Daily reports that the total vehicle volume of Guangzhou just broke through one million yesterday. As reported earlier on Danwei, Beijing registered its three millionth car on May 26 this year. According to various Internet sources, Shanghai seems to have between one and two million cars, while Shenzhen has less than a million.
The photo shows a rescue scene in Fenghuang County in Hunan where a bridge collapsed on Monday. The death toll rose to 36 today. President Hu Jintao ordered the utmost efforts in the search for those missing and the treatment of those injured yesterday.
The other headline is about the Industry and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). Yesterday was the first day of retail availability of two hot investment funds. People thronged to ICBC outlets in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, and also onto their online system, leading to a temporary crash.
