Male students at a university in Nanjing are banned from using the elevator in their dormitory building, today’s Yangtse Evening News reports.

The 11-storey dorm is shared by both male and female students. However, while female students can choose to take the stairs or elevator at will, male students are only allowed to use the stairs, even when the elevator is empty.

The university authorities told the newspaper that such a policy is due to safety concerns, given that most of the students living in the dormitory are “at a special age.”

Besides its ban on sharing an elevator, the university also stops from visiting dorms of the opposite sex.

In a continuing story, the investigation into the Sanlu melamine-tainted baby formula scandal has deepened: a total of 22 brands of baby formulas, including products from Mengniu (蒙牛) and Yili (伊利), the two leading domestic brands, have tested positive for melamine, the chemical to blame for thousands of babies’ kidney stone. According to Xinhua, 6,244 children have been sickened by the tainted baby formula and three have died.

Today’s Oriental Morning Post put up a picture which features a baby bottle with a knotted rubber nipple. Inside the bottle are various products which have been confirmed to contain melamine.

A vice mayor of Shijiazhuang, the capital city of Hebei Province where Sanlu is based, was fired. Tian Wenhua, the chairwoman of board and Party secretary of Sanlu, was also fired.
