Peng Liyuan, China’s national ambassador for the control and prevention of tuberculosis, was shown on the front page of today’s Dongguan Times meeting the city’s party chief, Liu Zhigeng.
The newspaper reported that Peng, along with Ministry of Health vice-minister Li Yi, arrived in Dongguan yesterday to attend the opening of an event commemorating World Tuberculosis Day and honoring medical workers who have made contributions in the fight against the disease.
Although she has been China’s “tuberculosis ambassador” since 2007, Peng Liyuan is better known for her more high-profile roles as a celebrated folk singer, a PLA major general, a CPPCC member, and the wife of vice-president Xi Jinping, who is rumored to be in line to succeed President Hu Jintao.

Despite her visible presence in the media, information about this woman of many talents is difficult to come by: her name is a blocked key word on both Google.cn and Baidu.
