The front page of today’s Beijing Times features a photo of firefighters battling a blaze in Beijing’s Shunyi District. Last night, a tanker truck plowed into a container truck, leading to several explosions and a mammoth fire that burned for nearly two hours before it was put out.
In other news, the Chinese government will temporarily intervene to stabilize recent market prices. Yesterday’s State Council meeting, hosted by Premier Wen Jiabao, emphasized the importance of price management and stated that the goverment will hold down the price of necessities. Today’s Beijing Times used this news item for its top headline: “For the near future, the price of petrol, natural gas, and electricity will not be adjusted.”
