Kunming sleeper bus crashes, falls off a bridge

The front page of the Spring City Evening News today features the headline: “A journey without end.” The story is about a fast-travelling bus that crashed, and fell off a bridge in Yunan provinces, killing 9 people and injuring 36. It says that Qin Guangrong, and Li Jiheng, Governor and Party Secretary of Yunan, have called for full treatment and rehabilitation of the wounded, and an investigation into the cause of the crash.

The article says the bus was a sleeper bus traveling from Kunming to Baoshan Tengchong down a major highway. The accident occurred on the 320 National Road overpass, when the bus went through the fence and off the bridge. It fell 10 meters. The vehicle was overloaded, and at the time of the crash, there were 46 people on the bus, two of them 3 year-old children. Although the official investigation has yet to determine the cause of the accident, local media reports that the bus had been speeding.
