Another fake South China tiger
A journalist in Pingjiang(平江), Hubei Province, claimed that he had shot a video of a wild South China tiger in Hubei. The video was confirmed to be a fake soon afterwards. It was found that the tiger was an artificially reared one and had been borrowed from a circus.
This is the second falsified claim about South China tigers: late last year, the Shaanxi Province Forestry Department publicized a photo, apparently taken by a local farmer, of a South China tiger. It was soon shown to be a fake by netizens (see this Danwei story).
Olympic flame lit
The big picture and big headline on the front page: The Olympic flame for the 29th Olympic Games was lit yesterday afternoon in Athens, Greece. China sent a delegation of over 2,000 people to Greece for this event. The report does not mention the disruptions caused by protesters.
Lhasa arsonists arrested
Five suspects believed to be responsible for arson in Lhasa were have been arrested. The reports says that 10 civilians were burned to death at two different sites. The police said there were no lethal weapons used in dealing with the riot and 242 police and People’s Armed Police (武警) officers were injured in the riot.
