Beijing Times, June 18, 2010
The downpour in Beijing that began on Wednesday evening leaked into Terminal 3 of the Beijing Capital International Airport by the time it stopped Thursday morning.
On the front page of today’s Beijing Times are photos of the First Class Lounge: in the center, the flooded carpet, and on the right, water pouring through the ceiling.
The airport complaints department said that the building’s design, which incorporates hollow spaces intended to save energy by allowing natural light, might be to blame. Improperly sealed skylight glass had caused leaks in 2009.
The larger, less photogenic story inside the paper reported on the effects of 583 delayed flights and 415 cancellations.
