39 writers in prison

PEN, the international writer’s organization dedicated to ‘advance literature, to defend free expression, and to foster international literary fellowship’ has launched a campaign to free 39 writers who are ‘imprisoned in China for exercising their right to speak and write freely, as guaranteed under Chinese and international law’. Part of the campaign will include publishing ‘short descriptive narratives and essays by Chinese writers’ on the PEN website. Works can be submitted here.
