Hutong residents enjoy a peaceful life, replete with Mah-Jong tournaments and gossip stops at the communal toilets (most family units do not have proper restrooms).
The Beijing government is now working hard to ensure every Hutong will have its own condom vending machine. Similar machines can be found in discreet locations around universities, hotels, and entertainment venues. In Hutongs, however, they are located just outside the communal toilets, exposing buyers to all and sundry.
The battle of the brands is heating up, and long time favourite “Strong Man” is being challenged by new “Fire” condoms. The winners are local community members, who can now enjoy safe sex for as little as 1RMB (12 cents).
