Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attended the special ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) Leaders’ Meeting Tsunami Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 6. Heads of state, ministers and senior officials from 26 nations and groups attended the meeting.
Wen made a seven-point proposal for relief efforts and reconstruction in the tsunami-hit countries, ranging from provision of emergency aid and revival of tourism to establishment of a disaster early-warning mechanism and better information exchange. He also noted that China will add another 20 million US dollars of aid for the disaster-hit countries.
