The first person to take the SARS vaccine got plenty of exposure in the media today. His name is Lan Wanli, a 23 year old graduate student from Beijing Chemical University. He took part in the test of the China-developed SARS vaccine on May 22 this year. He was actually the second person to get an injection in the trial, but the first person was injected a placebo. So he was indeed the first person to really get the SARS vaccine.
36 volunteers took part in the vaccine trial in May. 56 days later, all volunteers are healthy and haven’t dispplayed any negative reactions. A SARS antibody has already formed in 24 of them.
The pictured front page is from The Beijing News, and features a photo of Lan was getting the vaccine injection.
