The top headline announces the start of official mourning for reform-minded Communist Party leader Hu Yаobаng whose death was one of the factors behind the demonstrations 20 years ago in Beijing. Discussion of those events are still taboo in mainland China’s media.

20 years ago today, The People’s Daily, organ of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, had a front page headline article about the the start of official mourning in Beijing for Hu Yаobаng.
