Xinhua’s English website published a very strange article yesterday bylined George Bao and marked ‘Editor: Pliny’.
Titled ‘Does freedom of speech simply mean people can say what they want?‘, the article opens with these questions:
What is the freedom of the press? What is the freedom of speech? Should that simply mean Americans are free to say what they want to say?
Rather than answering any of the questions, the article recounts two inconclusive stories about ethnic insults.
So perhaps Danwei can give Xinhua a hint:
Q: Does freedom of speech simply mean people can say what they want?
A: Yes.
