Today’s Beijing Times reveals new standards for Beijing traffic police, which require them to salute twice, at the beginning and end of each interaction, and to be “Smiling Beijing Traffic Police.” The standards cover language and attire, according to spokesman from the Beijing Traffic Police Department.
The photo shows members of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) arriving at the capital for this year’s sessions, which opened this afternoon at 3 pm. Topics like “reassessing snow storms” and “the one child policy” will be discussed.
Other Beijing papers featured a photo of CPPCC spokesman Wu Jianmin, who spoke to reporters about members’ responsibilities. Beijing Youth Daily ran Wu’s photo under the headline, “Members have the right to monitor state organs,” while The Beijing News summarized Wu’s pronouncement somewhat differently: “CPPCC members have the right to criticize the government.”
