The headline is for a general article issued by the Xinhua News Agency, and says that former Shanghai party chief Chen Liangyu was expelled from the Communist Party and dismissed from all government posts yesterday.
The second headline concerns a policeman who got blood on a wound while arresting a pickpocket with AIDS. He is currently taking medication and will find out in four months whether he has been infected.
The front page picture illustrates the plight of pear growers. Rainstorms a few days ago destroyed the only road linking their farms to the city, and their ripe pears are going rotten.
