Well silly, it’s because of the ‘Two Meetings’ – the concurrent assembly of the People’s Representatives (something like the House of Commons in the UK) and the People’s Consultative Conference (something like the House of Lords). Only something like.
When the Two Meetings happen, many other things grind to a halt: such as anything interesting on newspaper front pages.
So here we have a selection of today’s papers, all pretty boring. The highlight is the Beijing Morning News:

On the front page we have the Two Meetings, a guy who towed a Jeep by means of a string attached to his ear, bombings in Iraq, and stuff about traffic violations.
Here is The Beijing News: more bollocks about the Two Meetings but also a headline noting that there will be an article about the Formula One race in Shanghai. Catch is, you have to buy TOMORROW’S paper to read it.

And here is the worst of the worst: the Beijing Daily Messenger which sells more than half of its front page to second rate advertisers and features a front page headline about traffic violations. Ho hum.

For some variety, go to Taiwan blogger A Better Tomorrow, who has some scans and details about the Apple Daily.

No Two Meetings. No bolllocks. Just straight-up sensationalism about young girls prostituting themselves to engineers to pay the family debts.
