Destination PRD, the English magazine about the Pearl River Delta, has published its second issue. This is excerpted from one of the articles:
The Pearl River Delta area has become the center of a worldwide aviation trend: start-up airlines. In the past two years alone, seven new airlines have established themselves in the PRD, or announced plans to do so. The list includes Hong Kong Express and CR Airways, which have already launched flights from Hong Kong, and Oasis Airlines, which plans to fly from Hong Kong later this year. On the western side of the Delta, VIVA Macau plans to fly in June, while Golden Dragon Airlines and Macau Asia Express both expect to launch flights either later this year or early next year. The trend has been slower to take hold inside Guangdong, where Shenzhen-based Jade International Air Cargo is the lone start-up.
Aside from these, airports in the PRD are becoming increasingly well served by fledgling carriers from elsewhere in Asia. These include Singapore-based Tiger Airways and JetStar Asia, Thailand-based Bangkok Airways, Malaysia-based Air Asia, Shanghai-based Spring International Airlines, Manila-based Cebu Pacific, and several others.
