Beijing Olympics organizers signed formal agreements with four other Chinese cities this week for their help in hosting soccer qualifiers during the 2008 Games, the committee in charge said Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games signed agreements with Shanghai, Shenyang, Tianjin and Qinhuangdao. It asked the four to set up command systems to work with Beijing on preparing for 12 soccer qualifying matches.

Shanghai and Shenyang, a major city in northeastern China, will renovate existing stadiums to host the soccer semifinals. Qinhuangdao, a coastal city east of Beijing, finished its stadium in July 2004, and Tianjin — a major northern China port and industrial hub — broke ground on its stadium this year, according to a committee statement…
