12 types of medical ads banned from print media

The General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) and the State Bureau of Industry and Commerce have banned advertising in print publications for abortions and for treatments for 11 different diseases including AIDS, cancer, syphilis and epilepsy.

The ban is the latest regulation directed against medical and health advertising, and is intended to protect the public from unscrupulous quacks and snake oil merchants.

The Beijing News has published an article about the regulations (in Chinese).
