The Beijing News, September 21, 2010

Even though the Moon Festival holiday only starts tomorrow, Beijing has seen traffic volume mounting since last week, leading to more frequent traffic jams. Today, Beijing’s traffic authorities warn that the worst traffic so far is likely to hit between 3:00 and 10:00 pm. Travelers are advised to take public transit system instead of driving.

According to The Beijing News, the Chinese custom of visiting people and sending gifts before the festival, in conjunction with the recent rainy weather, have contributed to higher levels of traffic congestion.
