New Express goes with a Next Media style cartoon illustrating the story of a Guangzhou shop clerk at a Nike store who has been detained for 10 days after he tried to record a woman changing with his mobile phone.

The New Express reports from Guangzhou:

Yesterday at 1pm, a netizen posted on Sina microblog to say that the day before yesterday she had gone to the Nike store on Wanda Plaza Floor -1, and there occurred an “awkward moment.” “At the time my friend was trying on clothes in the changing room, he (meaning the male sales clerk) put his mobile phone over the separation and recorded in secret the process of her changing, but we stopped it at the scene.” After handling this male clerk, shop workers called the police.

According to netizen “Xiaokit19” the man was a shop clerk at the Nike store, and his name is “Li Yuexing,” his tag was “C001583.” The netizen also posted Li Yuexing’s photo. From the photo it looks like he’s in his twenties, and is roughly 1.7m tall.

Yesterday lunchtime this reporter arrived at the shop where the incident had occurred. The chief clerk Ms. Lian admitted that a male shop clerk had secretly filmed a woman changing, but her and the other employees refused to tell us any related details.

Yesterday afternoon, the reporter found out from the Haizhu district police that after being called the police had asked the local PSB to go to the shop and investigate; they also took a male shop clerk away to investigate. Through investigation there was verification that the male clerk had conducted illegal activity. Yesterday afternoon, according to Section 6, Article 42 in the Law on Public Security Administration Punishments (治安管理处罚法), the Jiangnanzhong PSB has detained the male clerk for ten days on charges of shooting stealthily, voyeurism, and distributing other people’s privacy.
