Military excercises and another hit-and-run incident

Southern Metropolis Daily focuses on the military tensions on the Korean peninsular, especially the military exercises held by the US and South Korea.

City Evening News has the alarmist title US Aircraft Carrier Flaunting Power In Yellow Seas and a picture of an US aircraft carrier.

On the side a story points to the A07 section of the paper, where another event like the recent “My Dad is Li Gang” incident has made the press. This article is lifted from an earlier edition of the Yangtze Evening Post:

On the evening of October 20, on the campus of Xi’an University, when the 26-year-old waitress Zhang Meng (张萌 pseudonym) was going home from work, she was hit by a Chevrolet Cruze. After the offender escaped the police found that apart from the victim’s car wounds, there were also eight wounds caused by a knife.

Wang Hui (王辉) found out from the police that on that evening his wife Zhang Meng was riding home on her electric bicycle, and after she was hit, kept her eyes open, with only her left leg was broken, as well as the back of her head. “It was at the most a light injury, and she could have been saved.” But the offender saw that she had her eyes open looking at the car plate, this led to the man stabbing her to death.

At 11pm on the 27th, Wang Hui showed this reporter some certifications issued by the police and other departments. One of them, the “Death Certificate” said: “Zhang Meng died from a wound on the right breast caused by a sharp object, puncturing arteries which resulted in blood loss.” Another document, the “Case Report” says: “October 20, 2010 Zhang Meng was murdered by… suspect Yao Jiaxin (药家鑫), born in November 7, 1989, at the address of #20 South Gongyuan road, New City district, Xi’an. Student at Xi’an Conservatory of Music. Criminally detained on October 23, 2010.

On the afternoon of the 27th, this reporter contacted Chang’an bureau and other units where the case is being solved, but all refused to be interviewed. One police involved in the case said: “The nature of this case is too awful.”

The report goes on to connect the event with the recent “My Dad is Li Gang” event:

According to many policemen who saw the incident, before the incident Yao Jiaxin was a third year student of a top university, and on the evening of the event, he was on his way to see his girlfriend. The car he was driving was his own, and his family and background are well-off.

The article stipulates that the body can’t be buried yet and the husband Wang Hui wants “justification” for what happened to his wife.
