Double Designated

The Chinese government has a special word to describe the status of officials under investigation for corruption or malfeasance. They may be under house arrest or detained, but the word is shuanggui (双规) or ‘double designation’ and refers to intense questioning in a designated place at a designated time.

A website called World Executive Digest has started a special section tracking officials currently under double designation: Shuanggui.

Found via Forgotten Archipelagoes, a blog by Flora Sapio about criminal law, detention and violence in China.
